Grease a hydraulic breaker with the tool pressed firmly into the breaker and the attachment held upright, so the grease reaches the tool bushings and wear surfaces instead of washing into the hammer. Use the manufacturer-recommended hammer grease or chisel paste, then apply only enough to form a visible film or a small bead at the tool/bushing area.

A good greasing routine helps control heat, flush out abrasive dust, and reduce bushing and tool wear. If the breaker is run dry, you’ll usually see faster tool scoring, shiny or dry-looking front-head wear areas, more noise, and higher operating temperatures.

Practical steps:
- Park the carrier safely and lower the breaker to a stable position.
- Keep the breaker vertical whenever possible.
- Push the tool up into the housing with carrier down-pressure.
- Attach the grease gun securely to the greasing point.
- Pump slowly while watching the tool and lower bushing area.
- Stop when fresh grease appears around the tool area; do not overpack the chamber.
- Grease again after any tool change and whenever the front-end wear area looks dry.

How often to grease depends on material, dust, heat, and duty cycle. A common field practice is every 2 working hours during normal use, and more often in abrasive or high-temperature conditions. Short cycles of heavy breaking usually need more frequent attention than light intermittent work.

Use the right grease. General-purpose chassis grease is often too soft for breaker impact and heat. Hydraulic breaker grease is typically a high-tack, high-pressure paste designed to stay in place on the tool and bushings.

Check for these signs that greasing is needed immediately:
- Dry or shiny tool steel at the front head
- Increased metal-to-metal noise
- Excess heat around the tool area
- Visible scoring or accelerated bushing wear
- Dust or grit building up around the tool
