How do I inspect excavator undercarriage wear?
Expertsvar
Start with a clean undercarriage so wear is easier to see. Check track tension first, then inspect the track chains for pin and bushing wear, damaged links, loose or missing track shoes, and elongated pitch. Look at the rollers and idlers for flat spots, leaks, uneven flange wear, and bearing noise. Check sprocket teeth for hooking and measure track shoe wear, especially if the machine works in abrasive ground. Compare both sides of the machine, because uneven wear can point to alignment or operating issues. A simple daily walkaround plus periodic measurement helps catch problems early and avoid bigger repair costs. VANROCK supplies undercarriage parts for excavators through its appointed dealer network and quotes on request. For OEM-branded machines such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, or Volvo, VANROCK is an independent manufacturer and is not affiliated with the OEM.
