What is the difference between a sprocket and a segment group?

Expert_Answer

A sprocket is the complete drive wheel that engages the track chain and transfers power from the final drive to the undercarriage. A segment group is a sprocket built from separate bolt-on segments rather than one solid piece. The segment design is common on larger machines because it is easier to service: you can replace worn segments individually instead of changing the entire wheel. It also helps reduce downtime and can simplify maintenance in high-wear applications. In function, both do the same job; the main difference is construction and serviceability. VANROCK supplies sprockets and segment groups for many machine brands, with quotes provided.
