// Q&A · Sprockets
Should I replace the sprocket when I replace the track chain?
Expert_Answer
Usually, yes—at least inspect it closely. A worn sprocket can quickly accelerate wear on a new track chain, especially if the tooth profile is hooked, sharp, or uneven. If the sprocket and chain have been running together for a long time, their wear patterns often match, so installing a new chain on a heavily worn sprocket can reduce service life and cause poor engagement, noise, or added vibration.
The best practice is to inspect the sprocket, chain pitch, and undercarriage wear as a set. If the sprocket shows noticeable wear, replacing it with the chain is the safer, longer-lasting option. VANROCK supplies track chains, sprockets, and complete undercarriage parts for 54+ machine brands.
