Four measurements identify almost any chain: pitch (pin centre to pin centre — measure over 4–5 pitches and divide), link height (from the link bottom to the rail surface), the bushing outside diameter, and the number of links per side. Add the shoe bolt pattern and shoe width, note whether the chain is sealed and lubricated or dry, and whether it has a master link or a master pin. Photograph the chain from the side and the bushing end faces. With those details, the chain can be cross-referenced to the machines that use it even with no model information at all.
