A track chain is the bare chain assembly only: links, pins and bushings joined into a loop, without any plates fitted. A track group (also called a complete track or track group assembly) is the same chain with track shoes already bolted on at the factory — ready to install as one unit. Buying a track group saves the labour of bolting on 40–50 shoes per side at controlled torque, and factory assembly ensures every bolt is correctly tensioned. Buying the chain alone makes sense when your existing shoes still have serviceable grouser height and can be transferred.
