// Q&A · Rubber Pads

What are bolt-on rubber pads and when should I use them?

Expert_Answer

Bolt-on rubber pads are rubber blocks that bolt directly onto steel track shoes through the existing bolt holes, giving a steel-tracked machine a rubber contact surface. They are used when a steel-track excavator or dozer must work on asphalt, concrete, paving or other finished surfaces without damaging them — typical in roadworks, utilities and urban sites. The machine keeps its steel undercarriage's strength and can switch back by removing the pads. Alternatives are clip-on pads (faster to fit, no bolts), chain-on pads (which replace shoe and pad as one unit) and road pads.
