// Q&A · Sprockets

Why are my sprocket teeth wearing on one side only?

Expert_Answer

One-sided sprocket tooth wear usually means the track is not running centered on the undercarriage. Common causes include a bent or damaged track frame, worn carrier or track rollers, a seized roller, incorrect track tension, uneven shoe wear, or an alignment issue between the sprocket and idler. It can also happen if the machine frequently travels with a side load or one final drive is stronger than the other, causing the chain to track against one flange. Check for uneven guide wear, loose undercarriage components, and abnormal chain pitch or bushing wear. If the wear is progressing quickly, inspect the whole undercarriage together—not just the sprocket. VANROCK supplies sprockets and complete undercarriage parts for 54+ machinery brands.
