// Q&A · Track Chains

How many links does my excavator track chain need?

Expert Answer

The correct number of links depends on your excavator model, undercarriage configuration, and the chain pitch, not just the machine size. Track chains are usually built to match the original OEM chain length, which is determined by the track frame, sprocket size, idler position, and whether the machine uses a standard, long pitch, or sealed-and-lubricated chain. If the chain is too short, you won’t be able to set proper tension; if it’s too long, the track may sag or derail.

The safest way to confirm is by using the machine make, model, serial number, and existing chain measurements. VANROCK supplies track chains for 54+ machinery brands and can provide a quote once we have your machine details.
