ENGINEERING
WHY THE VANROCK BUCKET CRUSHER?
Ten engineering decisions that make it the ultimate crushing attachment for excavators.
All wear parts are made from HARDOX 450, ensuring guaranteed quality and exceptional abrasion resistance. VANROCK is one of the few manufacturers incorporating Hardox into its crushers, prioritising durability and performance.
KNOW-HOW
CRUSHER BUCKET KNOW-HOW
HOW A CRUSHER BUCKET WORKS
A crusher bucket is a jaw crusher packaged into an excavator bucket. The carrier's auxiliary hydraulic circuit drives a motor and flywheel that oscillate a moving jaw against a fixed jaw; material loaded through the bucket mouth is progressively compressed until it passes the jaw gap at the set output size.
Jaw drive: hydraulic motor + flywheel convert the carrier's oil flow into high crushing force — the excavator supplies flow, the geometry multiplies force.
QUATTRO jaw movement: VANROCK's four-phase jaw path pulls material down and through instead of just squeezing it, giving a more cubical product with fewer flakes and fines, and lower jaw plate wear.
Output adjustment: the jaw gap sets the finished fraction — from 12 mm fines for pipe bedding up to 120 mm for base layers — changeable on site in under 10 minutes.
Reverse crushing: reversing the jaw ejects jams (typically rebar or oversize) at the flick of a switch, keeping cycle time predictable.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT CRUSHER BUCKET
The right bucket is decided by your carrier, your material and the fraction you need to produce — in that order.
Carrier match: bucket service weight ≈ up to 10% of excavator operating weight; verify lifting capacity at reach with a full bucket, not empty weight.
Hydraulics: confirm auxiliary flow and pressure meet the model's requirement — a starved jaw stalls in hard feed and kills production.
Jaw opening vs feed size: pick a mouth large enough that your typical demolition debris feeds without pre-breaking; feed below ~80% of the opening crushes fastest.
Output fraction: choose the model and jaw setting around what the crushed material is FOR — backfill, piping bed, sub-base — not around the biggest number on the datasheet.
Duty cycle: for continuous recycling duty, step up one size rather than running a smaller bucket at its limit all day.
WHERE CRUSHER BUCKETS EARN THEIR KEEP
The economics are simple: every ton crushed in the bucket is a ton you neither haul away nor buy back as aggregate.
Demolition recycling: crush concrete, brick and block on site and reuse it as backfill or sub-base — removing disposal fees and inbound aggregate purchases in one step.
Trench and utility work: process excavated rock and spoil at the trench edge and return it as bedding material immediately.
Confined and urban sites: crush where a mobile jaw plant cannot physically go — courtyards, basements, live roadways, remote sites without plant access.
Quarry and landscaping: reduce oversize and produce saleable fractions with the machine already on site instead of trucking to a fixed crusher.
FAQ
CRUSHER BUCKET FAQ
A crusher bucket is an attachment for excavators or loaders designed to crush and recycle materials directly on site. Commonly used in construction, mining and demolition, it breaks down concrete, asphalt and other tough materials into smaller fragments — minimising waste, eliminating transport and enabling on-site reuse of material.
