What is the most common sizing mistake when choosing a vibro ripper?
The most common sizing mistake is choosing only by excavator tonnage and not checking the hydraulic requirement. Both have to match the model.
For example, each model has its own oil flow and pressure window, and they step up significantly through the range. A carrier may sit near the right tonnage class but still not provide the required flow or operating pressure for that ripper. Relief setting pressure also changes by model, from 250 bar up to 300 bar.
A second mistake is selecting the wrong tool for the material:
- Tooth: soft and medium-hard rock
- Chisel: hard rock
- Compactor: compacting ground
The practical selection sequence is carrier tonnage first, then oil flow and pressure, then tool type for the material and job.
