What are the common sizing mistakes when picking a demolition shear?
The usual mistake is matching only by excavator tonnage and ignoring hydraulics, opening and force. This shear range should be checked against all four.
- Carrier class: 13–17 Tons, 19–26 Tons, 26–32 Tons
- Main hydraulics: 250 bar or 320 bar, plus 200–320 LPM depending on model
- Rotation circuit: 160 bar and 36–40 LPM on every model
- Job size: 530 / 650 / 740 mm opening and 163 / 253 / 468 ton at the blade
Another mistake is expecting the same cycle speed across the range. Speed-type total cycle is 3 s on VR-DS 15, 5 s on VR-DS 20 and 7 s on VR-DS 30. Also, the data does not give maximum cut thickness, so do not size by thickness guesses when the published figures are force, opening and hydraulic demand.
