It shortens the full open-close cycle compared with the normal type. VANROCK specifies both normal and speed-type times for each model.

- VR-DS 15: normal 5 s, speed type 3 s
- VR-DS 20: normal 8 s, speed type 5 s
- VR-DS 30: normal 10 s, speed type 7 s

The opening and closing times are also reduced. On VR-DS 20, for example, normal type is 2 s opening and 5 s closing, while speed type is 2 s opening and 3 s closing. On VR-DS 30, normal type is 4 s opening and 6 s closing, while speed type is 4 s opening and 4 s closing. In practical terms, the built-in speed valve is there to reduce cycle time while the shear keeps its cutting function.
